Our Journey

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

2020

Where it all began

After 30 years in the neighborhood and managing their own 1-acre plot, Kerry and Lisa Bubb saw the 40-acre grove next door go up for sale after their neighbor's passing. Faced with the possibility of it being turned into a housing development, Kerry and Lisa bought the land to keep the farm alive and out of developers' hands. Stu and Rachel, already passionate about land and sustainability, stepped in to help guide this new adventure.

Learning the land

With guidance from Jorge, the grove’s manager of 40+ years, the team dove into the rhythms of citrus farming—learning irrigation, pruning, harvesting, fertilizing schedules, etc.

Diversifying the crops

As citrus faced (and continues to face) mounting challenges—disease, pests, and marketability—the team decided to transition a 5-acre white grapefruit block to Hass avocados. In two weekends, ten people planted 498 trees. The pivot was bold, and it worked.

First Harvest & Expansion

The first avocados took root, grew strong, and looked to be a promising addition to the farms. So, in 2023, Paradise Acres expanded—adding 9 more acres and replacing failing citrus with young avocado trees.

Investing in the Future

Over the past five years, the farm has changed more than the fruit it bears. Kerry and Lisa have invested heavily into its infrastructure and health with the long-term vision of making this property a sustainable and income producing operation that feeds the local community.

Today – Soil First, Food Follows

Five years in, the farm has transformed. Soil health has improved tremendously through the adoption of regenerative farming methods such as cover cropping, applying mulch, compost and biological teas. Every decision starts with the soil—because that’s where real healing of the land begins.

Our Practices

At Paradise Acres, we believe that healthy food begins with healthy soil. We work with nature to build fertility and disease resilience from the ground up. Between our tree rows, we plant a diverse mix of cover crops that do more than just fill space—they attract beneficial insects, provide fertility, prevent erosion, and create a habitat that promotes biodiversity. These living plants are part of a larger system that keeps our soil alive and our farm ecosystem in balance. The health of our soil is reflected in the quality and flavor of our products.

We’re not just growing food; we’re cultivating a healthier future. Because we believe it all starts here: Healthy soil → Healthy plants → Healthy food → Healthy people.
